
Dinard tourist information
Dinard is a wonderful seaside resort. It combines the pleasures of the walking along the seashore and water sport activities with the old-fashioned charm of its Belle Epoque style villas.
Dinard won the hearts of the avant-garde tourists in the middle of the 19th century. It is considered to be one of the finest seaside sites in Europe, because of its mild climate and its long sandy. During the Belle Epoque, it was particularly appreciated by the English and the Americans and became the top seaside resort in France.
There are stille a large number of villas from this period. The occasionally extravagant architecture of these dwellings can be appreciated on three separate tours (leaflet available at the Tourist Office). The museum of this seaside resort, traces back the evolution of the site. It is located in the superb Eugénie villa, 10, rue des Français Libres (Tel: 33(0)2.99.46.81.05).
The town stretches out over a succession of of headlands interspersed by some very beautiful beaches. From West to East, you will discover Saint Enogat beach, Port Riou, the Pointe des Etêtés (Etêtés headland), Pointe de la Malouine (Saint Malo headland), the Prieuré beach, the Pointe de la Vicomté (Viscounty headland. Clair de Lune (Moonlight) walk is one of the great Dinard classics. If you leave from the Général de Gaule square, as soon as night falls, from June to September, you will be able to enjoy its musical atmosphere while walking along the seashore.
Many shipping line companies offer exploration trips of the Bay of Saint Malo, Cap Fréhel (Fréhel head), Ile Cézembre (Cézembre island) or even a trip down the river Rance as far as Dinan. The sea museum - aquarium, 17, avenue Georges V, recalls the polar adventures of Charcot and his boat "the Pourquoi Pas" ("Why not ?) (Tel: 33 (0)2.99.46.13.90).
The Rance tidal power station can be visited, by appointment made with the Tourist Office, from the end of June to Mid September.
The Arts and Festival Centre, the casino, the sea water (thalassotherapy) centre, the olympic sea water heated swimming pool, the golf activities, the tennis, the equestrian centre, and the marina are all part of the infrastructions making Dinard a prestigious seaside resort.
