Mougins tourist information

During the Middle Ages this little village, that is spirally constructed at the top of a hill, was one of the most important sites of Cannes. But times have changed and Mougins has become the home of many secondary residences due to its real-estate development. Many red rooftops and blue squares, representing swimming pools, can be seen on the surrounding hill tops.

The old town, not to be confused with the modern Mougins-le-haut complex, is fortified by ramparts from the 15th century and offers a splendid view of Grasse and Cannes.

The area is charming, with its many paths and is colourfully decorated with flowers. Its tiny Place de la Mairie is decorated with a fountain and is the nerve centre of its gourmets. A large part of its high quality restaurants are found here. Not far from here, the Museum of Photography and the washhouse, with its temporary exhibitions of paintings, form the cultural centre of the town.

A few kilometres from here, the pretty hermitage surrounded by cypress trees, Notre-Dame-de-Vie is found and close by the canal de la Siagne can be seen. Picasso fell in love with this area and lived not too far from it in his villa "l’Antre du Minotaure" from 1961 until his death in 1973.

The Automobile Museum is also found here. Housed in a rather modern building, it overflows with magnificent and rare car models. From the first Mercedes Benz of 1894 to the Hispano-Suez and the Rolls-Royce Phantom III and all the Matra prototypes. It is a real treat for all car enthusiasts.
