Four Points By Sheraton Elysee Palace Hotel description
Welcome to the Four Points By Sheraton Elysee Palace Hotel in Nice - This modern, seven-story hotel is a half-block from the Promenade des Anglais and one block from the pebbly Voilier beach. The port and Nice’s old town are just 2 km (1.5 mi) away. The hotel offers 360-degree views of Nice, the sea, and the sky from its rooftop terrace (open mid-May to mid-September) which has a long pool, sundeck, and a restaurant and bar. Walnut-paneled corridors lead to the 143 guestrooms, which have Art Deco–inspired furnishings, marble bathrooms, Sony game consoles, and minibars. Superior rooms offer side views of the sea.
What to expect: Built in 1987, the Elysée Palace is unlike the Belle Epoque architecture of many other Nice hotels. The strikingly modern building has 24-meter-tall (80-ft) classical statues peering from between giant walls of stone and smoked glass. In contrast, the lobby is delicately designed. Vacationers and executives sink into lime-colored armchairs amid orchids, a stained-glass chandelier, and a white grand piano.
Amenity highlights: The hotel’s rooftop terrace is open from late spring to late summer, and offers a 12-meter (39-ft) lap pool and panoramic views of city and sea. Seasonal dining venues are provided: The informal rooftop bistro is replaced in the cooler months by a ground-floor restaurant with an emphasis on fresh fish and catch-of-the-day offerings. Walnut-paneled corridors lead to guestrooms.
Insider tip: Celebrating the city’s rich culture and history, the museums of Nice have a wealth of exhibits on subjects including paleontology and 16th-century interiors, and the Beaux Arts Museum is one block from the hotel. Visitors can save on individual admission fees by purchasing a 7-Day Riviera Museum Pass (Carte Musée Côte d'Azur 7 jours) for €27. (Prices are subject to change without notice). Also, admission is free on the first and third Sunday of every month.
Although the street address is on Promenade des Anglais, the hotel is a half-block from the Promenade itself, which has wide sidewalks parallel to the beach. The hotel’s modern exterior is composed of streamlined stone and smoked glass, with subtle, classically inspired sculptures as oversized design elements. The hotel’s interior has a contemporary Art Deco feel, with walnut-paneled corridors leading to guestrooms.
A large rooftop terrace provides a lap pool, showers, and a 360-degree view of Nice and the Mediterranean. Available to hotel guests only, the terrace is open from mid-May to mid-September, and also has a restaurant and bar that serves drinks and a light summer menu. Le Caprice, an intimate gourmet restaurant on the ground floor, is open from mid-September to mid-May, serving lunch and dinner menus with an emphasis on fish. A breakfast room offers a morning meal. Both self- and valet parking are available (surcharge for both).
The 143 guestrooms have Art Deco–inspired headboards and matching desks in highly polished teak. Televisions with Sony video-game consoles sit atop marble-topped minibar cabinets. Bedside brass lamps also rest on marble tables. Guests with laptops can connect to the Internet via either high-speed wireless modems (available in most rooms) or by dial-up connections (surcharge for both types of access). Bathrooms are entirely clad in sand-colored marble, and have telephones, shower/tub combinations, bidets, and vanities with overhead halogen lights.
Le Caprice - Intimate gastronomic restaurant seating 30, open from mid-September to mid-May. Decor includes translucent-glass ceiling lights, double layers of brocade tablecloths, and white crockery with colorful but discreet Art Deco details. The à la carte and fixed-price lunch and dinner menus lean strongly toward fish dishes with “catch of the day” offerings. From 15 May to 15 September, Le Caprice is closed, and the rooftop terrace restaurant opens to serve a lighter summer menu.
Rooftop Terrace - Informal bar and restaurant on the rooftop terrace open from mid-May to mid-September. Panoramic views, drinks and snacks all day, and a menu of fish dishes and grilled meats for lunch and dinner.
Breakfast Room - Separated from the lobby by frosted glass screens. Hot-and-cold buffet served each morning. Large green columns and potted trees punctuate rows of square tables, each with a pristine white tablecloth. The space is divided into two areas: one for individuals and small parties, and one for larger groups.
Open from mid-May to mid-September, the hotel’s 604-square-meter (6,500-sq ft) rooftop terrace contains 50 lounge chairs, showers, and a 12-meter (39-ft) pool. It’s a perfect spot to soak up sun and the panoramic view of ocean, beach, and sky.
The Promenade des Anglais, a half-block from the hotel, has wide sidewalks parallel to the beach, a favorite of joggers and in-line skaters; cyclists have dedicated lanes. The clear Mediterranean waters are ideal for snorkeling, and the best beaches are the less-congested Eze-sur-Mer and Cap d’Ail, 10 km (6 mi) east; both are easily reachable by car, bus, or train. In summer, parasailing, water-skiing and personal watercraft can be hired at Florida Beach, directly across the Promenade from the hotel. Both experienced golfers and beginners are welcome at the 9-hole compact course at the Golf de Nice, open all year; the course is 4 km (2.5 mi) west.
