De Crillon Hotel description
The Hôtel de Crillon is delighted to welcome you to its web site where you will discover the alliance between high technology and grand French Tradition.
Situated in the heart of the City of Light on the world-famous Place de la Concorde, Hôtel de Crillon is steps away from the luxurious boutiques of the Faubourg St.-Honoré, and is within walking distance of the Champs Elysées, the Avenue Montaigne, the Louvre, the Tuileries Gardens and many more of this famous city’s most acclaimed attractions.
Commissioned in 1758 by Louis XV, the Count of Crillon acquired the palace in 1788. It remained in the prominent Crillon family until 1907 when the Société des Grands Magasins et des Hôtels du Louvre transformed it into a palace hotel.
The hotel opened its doors on March 12, 1909 and has hosted some of this century’s most illustrious guests, serving as temporary residence and stopping place for royalty, statesmen, artists and entertainment figures. The guestbook boasts names ranging from Emperor Hirohito of Japan, King George V of England, King Juan Carlos and Queen Sophie of Spain, Sir Winston Churchill, Presidents Herbert Hoover, Theodore Roosevelt, Richard Nixon and George Bush, to architect I.M. Pei, opera singer Jesse Norman, Elizabeth Taylor, Michael Jackson, Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lopez and Madonna.
The 90 guest rooms and 57 suites or 'Grand Apartments' (including 5 overlooking the Place de la Concorde) have been restored in Louis XV style under the auspices of the French National Historic Landmark Commission and joint efforts by Sybille de Margerie.
All of the rooms have been recently redecorated and are fully air-conditioned and sound-proof. Additional features include marble bathrooms with telephones, cable television, mini-bar, and full valet service.
All suites are exquisitely furnished and decorated with Aubusson carpets, Baccarat chandeliers and Wedgewood china. They are all equipped with fax machines, voice mail, minisafes, and both video and compact disc players.
The Duke of Crillon suite is decorated in lovely warm tones, using the superbly restored golden oak panels of the floors, walls and ceilings in the living room and bedroom as a backdrop for the many portraits of the hotel’s most esteemed guests.
The Leonard Bernstein suite , named for the great 20th century conductor and pianist, has a more contemporary feel. The suite features three bedrooms, two living rooms, a sauna, jacuzzi, Turkish bath and high tech equipment. A large terrace in the suite affords the guest a majestic view of Paris, from the Eiffel Tower to the Musée d’Orsay.
The three Presidential suites were recently redecorated by acclaimed designer Sybille de Margerie and all look out upon the Place de la Concorde. Altogether they measure over 3700 square-feet and are carefully decorated with antique furniture, feature gold or copper leaf gilding, a jacuzzi and Turkish bath.
